What is an IV Drip?

A drip refers to a bag of fluid often mixed with other medications to be administered directly into the bloodstream via the veins (usually the veins more visible on the inside of your elbow or the top of your hand).

A drip is administered by a professional healthcare provider, often a nurse. The IV bag is hung from a pole higher than the entry point so that gravity allows the fluid to be delivered at a controlled rate. This is often assisted using a flow rate controller or infusion pump.

IV drips are used to hydrate patients or to administer medications that cannot be taken orally. IV drips are considered the most direct and fastest way to deliver fluids and medications to patients.

What is in an IV Drip?

The contents of an IV drip will vary depending on the treatment being administered. However, some common ingredients include:

  • Saline: A sterile solution of water and salt that is used to provide hydration and maintain electrolyte balance in the body.
  • Glucose: A sterile solution of water and glucose (sugar) that provides energy to the body.
  • Nutrients: IV drips can also contain a variety of nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, and amino acids that are required for the body to function properly.
  • Medications: IV drips can also be used to administer medications, such as antibiotics, pain relievers, or chemotherapy drugs.

What Are the Benefits of IV Vitamin Drips?

The benefits of Intravenous (IV) Vitamin Drips include effectively increasing your body’s intake of crucial nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and amino acids. It does this by directly introducing these essential supplements into your bloodstream, bypassing the digestive system for maximum absorption.

How Long Does an IV Drip Take?

Most IV Drips usually take 45 to 60 minutes to infuse.

How Long Do the Effects of an IV Treatment Last?

The benefits you receive from IV Drips will depend on the treatment you choose and your physical health. However, the noticeable effects can usually last anywhere from 2 to 4 days. The vitamins administered to your body from the IV Drip can remain in your system for up to 2 to 3 weeks. This means that IV vitamin treatment can increase the level of vitamins present in your body.

How Often Should You Get Vitamin IV Drips?

How often you should receive IV therapy mostly depends on what you want to get out of the treatment. At IV Boost, we carry out pre-treatment diagnostic tests, so we can customise our IV therapy around every one of your individual needs and requirements.
