Cryotherapy for Better Sleep – Case Study

It has allowed me to enjoy my time off between shifts, attend the gym more often whilst off work and not be as ‘grouchy’ to be around after having completed a round of shifts.

One of Whole Body Cryotherapy’s lesser known benefits is its impact on improving sleep quality.

This case study showcases how one of our early adopters, Liam, found Cryotherapy to be the answer to his sleep challenges when dealing with shift work.

In Liam’s own words:

Can you please describe the symptoms or condition you were feeling that led you to try Whole Body Cryotherapy? How were they impacting you?

I began whole body Cryotherapy as a remedy for the challenges posed by my demanding shift work schedule. With shifts spanning 12 hours, 16 hours including the commute, a constant rotation between days and nights, the disruption to my sleep pattern and body clock can leave me feeling lethargic and drained of energy. Sometimes even taking 2/3 days to recover which can eat into my rostered rest days off.

Why did you think Cryotherapy could help?

Originally heard of the idea of Whole Body cryotherapy through an old rugby club I used to play for. After having done some research, and reaching out to old team mates who could only give positive feedback, I thought that it was worth trying.

How did you find the initial experience? Were there any changes to your symptoms?

Once having upped the time i spent inside the Cryotherapy chamber, I started to notice a huge improvement in the quality of sleep. I found it easier to fall asleep the first evening after my night shifts and noticed waking up feeling rejuvenated. That was the start.

Have you developed a routine that works for you?

Yes , I have committed to booking in for full body Cryotherapy at least once a week. Once my shifts have been completed, I book into a mid afternoon slot on my first rest day.

What are the outcomes you’ve seen as part of your routine? Not just for your initial goals but for any other effects?

Skin conditions – My Psoriasis has massively improved since starting Cryotherapy. I now only have one small area on my right leg remaining. I used to have multiple areas on both legs and on my back which have all disappeared.

One of the biggest outcomes has to be the speed in which I can now recover after my night shifts. It has allowed me to enjoy my time off between shifts, attend the gym more often whilst off work and not be as ‘grouchy’ to be around after having completed a round of shifts.
